Top 12 Pregnancy Essentials You’ll Actually Use – Especially if You’re an Immigrant Mom in the U.S.

No fluff. Just what really helped me through every trimester.

Pregnancy is already a rollercoaster — now imagine going through it in a new country, far from your family, familiar brands, and local advice. As a Brazilian mom living in the U.S., I had to figure things out one Amazon order at a time. Here’s a list of the products that made a real difference during my pregnancy, especially if you’re adjusting to a new culture while growing a tiny human.

1. Pregnancy Pillow (C-Shaped or U-Shaped)

Helps with back pain, hip pressure, and sleepless nights — especially in the 2nd and 3rd trimester.

2. Maternity Leggings

Stretchy, soft, and actually cute. Go for a pair that can grow with your bump.

3. Belly Oil or Stretch Mark Cream

Check for ingredients you know and trust (I liked ones with shea butter and natural ingredients). Amazon has great fragrance-free options.

4. Compression Socks

Especially if you’re walking a lot, standing for work, or flying to visit family.

5. Prenatal Vitamins

Some U.S. brands are excellent, but always compare with the ones you know from your home country. I’ll share my favorite below.

6. Reusable Water Bottle

You’ll hear it 100 times: drink water! A cute bottle helps you actually do it.

7. Maternity Bras (No Wires!)

Comfort is everything. I recommend crossover or nursing-friendly ones for later.

8. Pilates Ball for Labor Exercises

A pilates (or birthing) ball was a game changer for stretching, improving posture, and getting baby into the right position — especially in the third trimester. I used it for gentle exercises, bouncing during early labor, and even just sitting more comfortably at my desk or in the living room.

9. Hypnobirthing Online Course

One of the best things I did for myself during pregnancy was taking a hypnobirthing course. It helped me feel calmer, more in control, and less afraid of labor — especially being far from family and giving birth in a different country. Many online courses offer lifetime access, audio tracks for relaxation, and birth partner tips (great for involving your partner, too).

10. Amazon Registry

Yes, you can start building your baby registry during pregnancy — and get discounts, freebies, and Prime delivery on everything. Start yours here.
